Ugh. It is hot – I hate heat. I hate typing in heat even more, my hands get sweaty and my fingers stick to the touch pad on my laptop so it refuses to work. Between my birthday, the 4th of July holiday and having a horrible summer cold, I have been super lazy about blogging… I am so excited to post photos of this awesome diaper cake I made, I might have just found my calling! Stay Tuned!
Cheap Summer Fun at the Aquarium! June 29, 2008
Here’s a great inexpensive family adventure to get the kids off the couch during a warm summer evening. This summer, to celebrate it’s 10th anniversary, the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach will be open unitl 10pm on 10 Sundays in June, July and August. After 5pm on these special nights, everyone gets in for $10! That’s a great discount – 50% off for adults. And yes, you can easily see all there is to see in 5 hours, it is a fairly small aquarium but a really neat one. I have been a member for 3 years now and my daughter loves to go visit the fishies any time the fancy strikes. She buzzes thru the entire aquarium in about an hour. It is also an awesome Beat The Heat activity – they have LOVELY air conditioning! For more info, visit The Aquarium’s Website

The Tafesilafa’i Festival is a fun-filled event where your children can get immersed in the wonder of Samoan tribal dance and ceremonial expression of the Pacific Islands. Come to all or part of two evenings of Pese & Siva (song and dance), Fire Making, Warrior Pulls, and more. It is an all day powerhouse dance championship competition on Saturday until the sun goes down. And a community worship experience and spiritual dance movement by young people of Polynesia on Sunday. Come to the Aquarium and stay for the Tafesilafa’i Festival.
Man, is it HOT! June 19, 2008
Ugh, I hate summer. I live by the beach and enjoy my year-round ocean breeze, but when the heat hits I get crazy. Today was the first day this year that I really started to feel it – it’s too early!! I am so not ready for it. I packed up my kiddos in my beautiful Bob Revolution Duallie and hit the pavement for our morning ritual, Starbucks on the way to the park, half hour to play, and then back home for lunch. This morning we got a little bit of a late start, out the door at 10:30am. In the 15 minutes it took to get from my door to Stabucks, the temp went from 77 to 91 degrees – at 11am! And this is literally one block from the ocean. Much to the kicking and screaming dismay of my 3 year old, I could not go one step farther in the heat once I felt the cool air conditioning at Bux, so my Frapp and I decided to skip the park and head back home. Really, it was way too hot for my 3 month old anyways, even in her shady little cozy seat. So home we went, and it all went downhill from there. And the worst part, I didn’t even get CLOSE to justifying the Frapp by walking it off, although as hot as it was I probably melted a few pounds by the sun’s work alone.
I hate this time of year with a passion, when the only time of day I can stand being at the park is the same time of day I’d much rather be sleeping!
