Free Coffee! July 30, 2008

Since my first daughter was born, I have collected and entered the codes on the little stickers inside the Pameprs packages. I always kinda thought I was doing it in vain, as the prizes were pretty lame and I figured it would all expire before I got around to doing anything with it. This month, I logged in to my Gifts To Grow account to enter codes, and to my surprise and utter elation the Starbucks logo popped up! A free gift I can really get excited about – free coffee! I pounced on that one, and quickly redeemed 3 years worth of diaper codes for $30 in free coffee from Starbucks!! Woo Hoo! Now, that’s a quick way to make up for all of those trips to the store to buy diapers diapers and more diapers! I can’t wait for my gift card to get here, I think I am going to enjoy that cup more than any other I have ever had.

Ugh, I hate summer. I live by the beach and enjoy my year-round ocean breeze, but when the heat hits I get crazy. Today was the first day this year that I really started to feel it – it’s too early!! I am so not ready for it. I packed up my kiddos in my beautiful Bob Revolution Duallie and hit the pavement for our morning ritual, Starbucks on the way to the park, half hour to play, and then back home for lunch. This morning we got a little bit of a late start, out the door at 10:30am. In the 15 minutes it took to get from my door to Stabucks, the temp went from 77 to 91 degrees – at 11am! And this is literally one block from the ocean. Much to the kicking and screaming dismay of my 3 year old, I could not go one step farther in the heat once I felt the cool air conditioning at Bux, so my Frapp and I decided to skip the park and head back home. Really, it was way too hot for my 3 month old anyways, even in her shady little cozy seat. So home we went, and it all went downhill from there. And the worst part, I didn’t even get CLOSE to justifying the Frapp by walking it off, although as hot as it was I probably melted a few pounds by the sun’s work alone.

I hate this time of year with a passion, when the only time of day I can stand being at the park is the same time of day I’d much rather be sleeping!

So I stumbled upon this blog post on another blog, You Might Have A Starbucks Problem If…

and it totally cracked me up because I pretty much do everything on the list, and then some. Seriously, what is it with Starbucks? I honestly think there is a hidden drug that makes us coffee fiends HAVE to have it. If, by 9am or so, I have not been to the corner for a Venti Coffee Frapp with No Whip, I cannot think about anything else. It drives me crazy, along with my husband who lately has been making the coffee run rather than waiting at home with a newborn and 3 year old. I think since my last pregnancy my addiction has only multiplied, fueled by the fact that I had 8 months of bedrest and strictly forbidden from caffeine. By around 3 or so, I cannot help myself and I am at it again. The drive-thru Starbucks that just opened around the corner from my house calls my name if I try to pass by without stopping – or maybe it’s just my 3 year old in the backseat begging me to stop there. And no – I do NOT give her coffee, but I will admit to letting her have a plain bagel most of the time. I don’t even want to know how much my Starbucks addiction adds up to every month, I am sure it would freak me out – ya know, maybe that’s just the way to break the habit!
